Ferry Companies operating to Denmark

Ferry Companies operating to DenmarkThe ferry crossing between the UK and Denmark, which departs from Harwich in Essex and arrives in Esbjerg, is operated by DFDS Seaways. Currently, they are the only company operating the route, and no alternative routes currently operate. DFDS Seaways is one of the major ferry and cruise operators. In addition to the Denmark route, they operate ferries from England to the Netherlands and France.

Despite being the only operator, DFDS has very reasonable prices for travel between the UK and Denmark. Return prices for a couple taking their car on the crossing are as low as £123 per person, while a family of four can make the return journey with their car for a total as small as £292. These prices compare well with the cost of flights, and allow you the convenience of an overnight stay aboard with an en suite cabin, as well as the ability to drive directly to your final destination in Denmark or beyond without having to worry about car hire.

The ferry is available not just to those travelling with their car, but also available to foot passengers, passengers with cycles and those bringing a motorbike. There’s also options for bringing a caravan with your car. Prices are reasonable for all, especially considering the inclusion of en suite cabin for all passengers.

While many take the ferry to Denmark as the beginning of a holiday, DFDS Seaways also offers you the opportunity to use the crossing as part of a mini cruise. With prices less than £80 per person for couples and sharers, the two night cruise is inexpensive despite the luxurious nature of the getaway. Soak up as much of the entertainment the ship has to offer as possible, before spending the day exploring Esbjerg’s beautiful setting and many attractions. Popular places for tourists to visit here include the Maritime Museum, water tower, art gallery as well as the delightful cafes and shops that Esbjerg has to offer.

DFDS welcome pets abroad the ferry for a fee of just £19 per pet. Those bringing their pet must follow relevant legislation of travelling with animals and have a pet passport valid for the journey. Your pet must be kept within your vehicle and have adequate facilities for the journey; visits can be made by arrangement with the crew. Sadly there’s no kennels on board. If you’re taking your pet, you need to book this in advance.

Baggage is unlimited, unlike airlines or even some other ferry companies. So even if you’re moving to Denmark and taking the kitchen sink with you, you’ll find that you’re able to bring everything provided it fits safely in your car or if you’re a foot passenger, that you can carry it.

On board the ferry you’ll find restaurants, a shop, bars, lounges and entertainment. There’s an all you can eat buffet as well as a Steakhouse. Live music is on offer in the bar, as well as entertainment for all the family including a Kidz Club for the little ones.
